Cotes du Rhone belongs to the oldest wine regions of in the world. When popes moved from Rome to Avignon in the 14th Century, they didn't liked the place. So they built a palace on top of a mountain with some houses, and vineyards that were owned by the Pope. Result: Chateauneuf-du-Pape, now one of the worlds most recognised wine region. Amen.
